Van Merwijks Music Machine - VMMM 2007
Steelpan, Hammond Organ, Percussion and Drums. An unheard combination of instruments, played by some of their most prominent instrumentalists. The music has strong roots in Caribbean, Cuban and World-Jazz traditions.
Roberto Vizcaino (Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Isaac Delgado) came over from Cuba to Europe especially for this particular tour. Vizcaino has always been an impressive example for the entire percussion world when it comes down to virtuosity, technique and coordination in playing several percussion instruments simultaneously.
Konkie Halmeyer (Monty Alexander) from Curaçao is one of the most expressive steelpanplayers in the Latin-Jazz and Caribbean field in the past years and also is the developer of a new system on this unique instrument. Carlo de Wijs (Candy Dulfer) is one of the greatest exponents of the Hammond Organ in Europe. Being a true virtuoso on the instrument, Carlo has lifted the possibilities of the Hammond to a higher ground by experimenting with the use of electronics.
Van Merwijks Music Machine is an initiative by drummer Lucas van Merwijk.
